Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
We are hiring two Lead Concession Managers who will work as part of the team who oversee the general day-to-day operations of our on-site bar and concession. Lead Concession Managers report to the Operations Managers and directly supervise a team of volunteers scheduled in their area. Lead Concession Managers are responsible for keeping the Concession work areas and storage rooms clean and organized, ensuring that the shift runs smoothly and efficiently and ensuring the fridges and supplies are fully stocked for the next shift. The Lead Concession Manager does not have additional supervisory roles to those of the rest of the Concession team, but takes a leading role in training, maintenance of our patron facing spaces and stockrooms, and ensuring a high level of consistency across all elements of the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead Duties

  • Train new Concession Managers through shadow shifts
  • Lead Concession volunteer training sessions and assist in the development of the Concession training program
  • Maintain the appearance, signage, and safety of the patron facing areas of the Concession
  • Maintain stock levels of all staff and volunteer resources
  • Work with the Operations Managers to establish and adjust processes related to the Concession

The Lead’s responsibilities also include the shift duties listed below:

Concession Manager Duties

  • Supervise Concession and Coffee Station operations during public performances and events 
  • Occasionally manage the Side Bar as scheduled 
  • Responsible for reconciliation and reporting 
  • Directly supervise a team of volunteer ushers. This may include on-shift training. Responsible for relaying important information to the volunteers at pre-show briefings to ensure they are clear on their duties and responsibilities during the shift.
  • Replenish stock and communicate with management when stock is getting low 
  • Keep the fridges, counters, storage rooms and workspace clean and compliant with Food Safety standards 
  • Report any repairs needed for equipment and/or the Concession work area to management immediately  
  • Responsible for ensuring that volunteers and staff are complying with BC Liquor Laws including checking ID and occasionally assessing and deciding whether to stop serving a patron
  • Follow and implement emergency protocols in relevant situations
  • Respond to any patron or volunteer conflicts and work towards achieving conflict resolution 


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a supervisor or manager in a theatre, hospitality or live events environment; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supervising volunteers; or equivalent leadership experience
  • Experience in working with the public and creating a welcoming, inclusive space
  • The ability to be a team player yet able to be proactive and work independently
  • Experience in the retail industry
  • Experience using iPad-based point of sales systems, experience with Square is an asset
  • Comfortable dealing with high pressure stations, the ability to remain calm during an emergency


Organizational Relationships: 
Reports to: Operations Manager and the Operations and Volunteer Manager 
No direct reports. Supervises volunteers.


Hours
Part-time casual between the beginning of May and September 30, 2024. Evening and weekend availability is required. Expected to be available for 4-6 shifts a week. 

May: Approx. 10-20 hours during the month
June – September: Approx 20-35 hours per week
