Green Award
An initiative of the Environmental Stewardship Committee, the PACT Green Award honours projects that inspire the theatre community to engage with the climate crisis and environmental stewardship in creative and exciting ways. Projects could include theatrical productions, events, or initiatives that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to taking action against climate change. You do not need to be a PACT member to be eligible.
The Green Award seeks to recognize projects that:
- inspire passion and commitment towards climate action and environmental stewardship;
- profoundly and sustainably impact your practice, organization, and/or your community; and/or
- serve as an example of what can be accomplished at the intersection of the arts and environmentalism
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Both organizations and individuals are eligible for nomination
- Projects must take place in Canada
- Projects can be self-nominated or nominated by others
- Projects must be theatre-related or impact the theatre community in Canada in some way
- Projects must have taken place between November 2024 and October 2025
SELECTION PROCESS
To nominate yourself or another organization/individual for the Green Award, please submit an online application. Applications are accepted from November until January of each year. The winner will be announced at the annual PACT conference.
Each application will be adjudicated based on innovation, impact, and sustainability.
The Green Award winner is selected by the Green Award jury, appointed by the PACT Environmental Stewardship Committee. Special care is given to select jurors who represent not only different fields of practice within the arts community, but also different regions of the country.
The Award includes
- cash award;
- a session featuring the winner's work during the annual PACT conference;
- national press release; and
- Green Award Seal (to be displayed digitally on the winner's website and programs).
The Green Award is granted to the recipient at PACTcon, PACT's annual national in person conference. The Award winner and runner up will be invited to attend PACTcon. Please note that travel and accommodation will not be included.
Submissions for the 2026 PACT Green Award are being accepted until Monday, January 12, 2026.
