Green Thumb Theatre creates, produces, and tours plays that explore social issues relevant to the lives of children, youth, and young adults. Green Thumb Theatre’s offices are located in the city currently known as “Vancouver”, on the traditional, unceded, ancestral territories of the xmθkym (Musqueam), Swxwú7mesh (Squamish), and slílwta (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager, the Development Officer is primarily responsible for building the organization’s revenue through donations and fundraising efforts. The Development Officer provides support to the General Manager and Artistic Director in identifying donor resources and potential investors/sponsors, raising funds in accordance with budgeted targets, writing proposals for long-term organizational sustainability, applications for funding competitions, as well as creating and maintaining ongoing fundraising systems and procedures, and researching and implementing of funding initiatives.

The Development Officer works collaboratively with other Green Thumb staff members: with the General Manager on fundraising/sponsorship strategy and tactics, the Tour & Company Manager on tour-related funding initiatives, and the Artistic Director on community engagement initiatives.

The Development Officer provides professional support to the General Manager and Artistic Director and acts as an advocate of Green Thumb Theatre to arts professionals, various stakeholders, and the community at large.

This is a 3 days/week, in-person position; However, remote working options may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising and Donor Management
Under the direction of the General Manager

  • Research and regularly monitor donor communication mediums/portals and identify opportunities matching the work of the organization
  • Assist the General Manager in writing concept notes, project ideas, and project proposals and ensure their timely submission

  • Undertake independent research in finding alternative revenue resources for the long-term sustainability of the organization

  • Undertake research and build contacts with potential sponsors and foundation donors

  • Maintain relationships with existing corporate and foundation funders and respond to their requests regularly and keep updating them about the work of the organization

  • Project management of foundation and government grants to include up keep and lead on annual grant calendar

  • Creates, writes, and executes email campaigns, direct mail appeals, and annual campaigns

  • Manages all digital communication with donors relating to e-appeals

  • Review data and create reports to evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns and support data-driven decisions regarding future initiatives

  • Assist with final reports and ensure their timely submission

  • Research and consider options for a database of donor organizations, as required

  • Maintain and update fundraising program infrastructure to include systems and tools (database)

  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity when interacting with people who hold a diverse range of perspectives, worldviews, and experiences

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience - for example, experience with fundraising and donor relations, arts administration, producing, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Comprehensive proficiency in working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Works well with goal-oriented outcomes and can achieve these outcomes through collaborative methods, as required
  • Must be familiar with the local and provincial performing arts ecology

Assets

  • Experience working in a non-for-profit environment
  • Experience working with CanadaHelps (asset)
  • Experience with Sumac preferred
  • Experience working with Canva or a similar program
  • Experience working with Constant Contact or a similar program
  • Demonstrated success in securing funding at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of individual giving campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and managing projects, and the ability to execute fundraising marketing campaigns across traditional and digital media
