Are you an experienced non-profit Executive Director with a passion for the theatrical arts? TheatreOne seeks an experienced leader to “move hearts and minds” in Nanaimo.

For over 35 years, TheatreOne has offered professional theatre to the region.  Our current programs and offerings include:

-        Mainstage performances: includes productions, co-productions and presentations, typically 3-4 mainstage, including 1-2 new productions per year.

-        Just Kidding for Kids: Nanaimo’s only theatre series specifically for children.

-        Emerging Voices: a series of readings offering playwrights the opportunity to present new works and receive audience feedback and commentary.

-        Fringe Flicks: an alternative film series, typically with 10 showings annually.

Job Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) provides leadership and oversight of all administrative activities including revenue generation, marketing, finance, planning, and human resources. Working with the Board, Artistic Director, administrative team, and volunteers, the ED will develop and grow relationships with donors, sponsors, stakeholders, and the audience to maximize TheatreOne’s artistic and operational capacity.  This position is a permanent, ¾ time role averaging 30 hours per week and requires someone able to work flexible hours during the season (September- June), with the option for flex time in the off-season.

 

Qualified candidates will demonstrate strong collaborative skills to build an audience for the future by attracting new patrons, increasing representation, and promoting and encouraging cultural development to reflect the region’s diversity. Applicants must be adept in financial management, with a history of meeting and exceeding fundraising and sponsorship targets, and must demonstrate strong organizational management skills with the ability to multi-task. TheatreOne has a dedicated team of employees and volunteers which the successful candidate will manage and inspire.


Interested individuals are asked to provide a thorough cover letter which outlines their passion for the theatrical arts, their interest in this role, and which shares the knowledge, skills and experience they offer.  The accompanying resume should identify previous theatre experience, titles held, major accomplishments, highest education completed, as well as other professional development and Board and volunteer management experience.  

Applicants are asked to demonstrate their qualifications in the following areas:

·       Five years of senior leadership in a non-profit organization

·       Ability to work with a Board of Directors

·       Financial management in a non-profit organization focussed on long-term financial stability

·       Human and Volunteer Resource Management, providing opportunities for growth and development in a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment

·       Community outreach engagement, via sponsorship, donors and fundraising

·       Writing successful grant and funding applications

·       Education (Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered) and other professional training
