Job Description

The Payroll Administrator plays a crucial role in processing payroll, determining pay and benefit entitlements, and managing source deductions for employees. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure all employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance with payroll regulations and supporting the overall success of the organization.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • ·         Full cycle payroll for union and non-union staff, including maintaining a weekly and bi-weekly payroll schedule. 
  • ·         Administer multiple payroll and remittance accounts in compliance with legislative requirements, employment standards, and organizational policies. 
  • ·         Process all-time data entry, Record of Employment (ROE’s), statement of earnings, and T4’s/T4A’s; reviewing compliance and accuracy. 
  • ·         Administer end-to-end payroll activities, including payroll data entry, verification, calculations, reconciliations, and preparation of journal entries for accounting purposes. 
  • ·         Input changes in compensation rates, deductions, accruals, and terminations in the system. 
  • ·         Support payroll activities in accordance with governing bodies and provincial standards and legislation. 
  • ·         Maintain payroll files in an accurate and comprehensive filing system. 
  • ·         Prepare payroll reports and support internal or external audits by providing accurate documentation, analysis, and reconciliations. 
  • ·         Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions in a timely and professional manner. 
  • ·         Other duties as required. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Education: Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field of study, or a combination of equivalent experience and education.

·         Experience: 2 years of experience in a comprehensive payroll position.

·         Skills:

o   In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and employment standards.

o   Proficiency using payroll software and systems (ADP preferred).

o   Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Certification or training in payroll administration (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional – CPP)
