Job Description

The Theatre Camp Counsellor – Assistant Director is responsible for providing instructional support to the Instructor of the Stratford Festival’s Theatre Arts Camp and mentoring participants throughout the program. This role involves researching and assembling supporting materials for the chosen script, leading warm-ups, games, and exercises, and acting as Stage Manager/Prompter for the camp’s final performance. Reporting to the Associate Director of Education, the Counsellor - Assistant Director collaborates with instructional staff and program leaders to ensure a positive and engaging learning environment. This position also includes staying in residence alongside participants and ensuring their safety and well-being, while contributing to the overall success of the camp experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to the Director/Instructor of the Stratford Festival’s Theatre Arts Camp 
  • Mentor participants enrolled in the program 
  • Research and assemble supporting materials for the chosen script 
  • Lead warm-ups, games and exercises 
  • Act as the Stage Manager/Prompter for the camp’s final performance 
  • Stay in residence alongside participants 
  • Ensure safety and well-being of all participants enrolled in the program
  • Adhere to the Stratford Festival Health & Safety Commitment and Procedures, and ensure that safe work practices and policies are supported and enforced within reporting structure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of training in a Post-Secondary Diploma or University Undergraduate Degree or equivalent, preferably with a focus on Theatre/Drama, Child & Youth Work/Education
  • 1 to 3 months of related experience
  • Provide a clear vulnerable sector criminal record check
  • Previous camp or recreation experience and an affinity for working with grade 7-12 students considered an asset
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR/AED certification or above

This contract full-time posting is for an existing vacancy located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin July 5, 2026. This position requires the candidate to work onsite. Regular work hours for this position are Monday to Friday, but may require the candidate to work holiday and weekend hours as scheduled.

Weekly Pay Rate: $704/weekly
