Job Description

Scenic Painter

Reporting to the Technical Director for all day-to-day technical matters, and to the Production Manager for administrative matters (e.g., hours and scheduling), the Scenic Painter will primarily be responsible for working closely with the Set Designer and Head of Carpentry to paint sets and be in charge of painting all set elements for 5 productions. 

Job Location:  Lighthouse Theatre Port Colborne (Roselawn).

The Scenic Painter must possess the required technical skills, be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, have demonstrated problem solving and time management skills, and be able to perform all physical duties of the job.  The Scenic Painter must have a strong commitment to Health and Safety.

Major Responsibilities

·        Ensure that any paint or set pieces are prepped and ready for transfer from the shop to the Lighthouse stage. Effectively communicate with the transfer team of these needs.

·        Maintain a clean and safe paint shop and report to the Technical Director of any equipment in need of repair or replacement. 

·        Responsible for closing the theatre building down when required. 

·        Keep an up-to-date inventory of paint supply.

·        Any show related orders, such as paint or other set related items are purchased by the head of paint or submitted to the Technical Director and/or Production Manager in a timely manner. 

·        Create and send any paint samples to the Set Designer in a timely manner.

·        Responsible for staying within their budget provided by the Production Manager for each production.

·        Responsible for maintaining their budget and reporting any show-related purchases to the Production Manager each week.

·        Work alongside the Head Carpenter providing assistance when required to help construct set pieces.

·        Attend all meetings, production and crew meetings, as scheduled by the Technical Director/Production Manager.  

·        Promote a health and safety conscious environment within the theatre. Work with the Lighthouse Team to ensure prescriptions outlined in the OHSA are implemented and upheld.  

·        Other duties as may be assigned by the Production Manager or Technical Director.

 

Skills and Experience

 

·        Minimum One Year Postsecondary education in Technical Production preferred

·        Effective technical skills

·        Strong communication skills

·        Demonstrated time management skills

·        Work cooperatively with other members of your team and be able to work independently

·        Able to lift 50lbs on occasion

Starting pay: $850 weekly commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Collaborative and supportive team environment.

Anticipated Start and end dates: January 23 to April 14, 2023 with possible extension of contract for summer season.
