The Black Pledge Collective is excited to partner with PACT on the next iteration of Beyond Black Squares: anti-Black racism workshops for the theatre community.

We invite administrators and managers from PACT Member companies with less than 20 full-time employees to join us for this interactive workshop. We will cover the basics of anti-oppression/anti-racism followed by a celebration of Black people in theatre in Canada and most importantly case studies where we can problem solve together. The session will be led by members of the Black Pledge Collective who are experienced in facilitation. This workshop is a part of the Black Pledge and PACT's Strategic Partnership.

Workshops attendees will be invited to be a part of Black Pledge Collective’s new Discord Community. The BPC will keep this community animated and we hope that it will be a space of knowledge sharing and exchange toward the goal of dismantling anti-Black racism in theatre and uplifting and celebrating Black artists and Black work nationwide.

About the Black Pledge Collective

The Black Pledge Collective is led and created by Black artists who work in theatre. Our purpose is to dismantle anti-Black racism in live performance and create a supportive and affirming space for Black artists and arts workers. Our first project was the creation and sharing of the Black Pledge which asks theatre organization to affirm their support for Black artists through creating a plan to address anti-Black racism in their organizations. 5 organizations have signed the pledge (2b theatre, Neworld Theatre, Nightwood Theatre, Shakespeare in the Ruff and the Stratford Festival) and several others are interested in signing. We also have 3 strategic partnerships with arts service organizations: Toronto Alliance of the Performing Arts, the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and Choral Canada. www.theblackpledge.ca
