For 45 years, Story Theatre has been inspiring imagination, fostering belonging, and enhancing education with a mandate to create and tour theatre productions for young people that enhance and complement their learning experiences. Currently, the company commissions new plays written by Canadian playwrights with vibrant and diverse perspectives, who through stories, want to encourage children to be leaders of change.
STORY THEATRE’S MAIN ACTIVITIES
Producing theatre that tours to elementary schools and public spaces (for youth ages 5-12)
Producing theatre for the very young (for babies and children, ages 0-2 & 3-5)
Programming drama workshops and classroom residencies for educators and youth
Commissioning new plays for development and touring
Providing mentorship, residency, & training opportunities for QT2BIPOC and disabled artists through free arts program Creator Crew
Providing leadership opportunities for QT2BIPOC and disabled teens through Creator Crew Youth Jury
Job Description
TOUR MANAGER
(Contract, F/T, Driver's License Required) starting as early as Mar 30, 2026
$950-$1,100/week for up to 9 weeks
1 week prep
2 weeks rehearsal
Up to 6 weeks touring (accomodation + per diems provided)
Taking leadership of all aspects of the tour, the Tour Manager takes responsibility for the itinerary, vehicle travel and delivery needs of the production. The role includes being the point of contact with all booked presenters to ensure the smooth running of the presentations, communicating the arrival and departure times of the team and what is needed or required upon arrival at the venue. They help the performing artists and tour personnel to arrive at each venue feeling prepared and cared for, they take leadership of the load in and strike of production sets, costumes, and gear, and they act as the stage manager to run any sound or technical requirements of the show at each performance.
This role can be physically demanding, and requires someone who excels at tracking details, managing time and production elements, and who can bring care and professionalism to the experience of touring theatre to the team on the road. Throughout the prep and rehearsal week, the Tour Manager will work closely with the Associate and Artistic Producer to understand tour itineraries and details, as well as with the Creative Team (Director, Designers) to understand and maintain the integrity of the design and direction of the production and any technical cues they are responsible for running.
