Led by Executive Director Gideon Arthurs, and Artistic Director Weyni Mengesha, Soulpepper’s home is the Young Centre for the Performing Arts situated in the Distillery Historic District in downtown Toronto. Soulpepper’s annual budget is approximately $8 million and engages roughly 60 employees and 250+ artists annually. The Young Centre’s annual budget is approximately $3 million and engages roughly 150+ employees annually.

Job Description

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, through the Technical Director and Assistant Production Manager (APM), the Production Assistant provides general support for daily production operations for Soulpepper Theatre Company and its joint venture the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as main driver of the company vehicle for purchases of supplies for productions and administration events;
  • Assists with the set-up of rehearsal halls;
  • Maintains accurate accounting records for purchases, including maintenance and reconciliation of petty cash floats;
  • Attends and takes minutes for production and scheduling meetings as needed;
  • Assists the production shops with builds as necessary;
  • Assists in maintaining and organizing inventory of Soulpepper and Young Centre storage facilities;

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic knowledge of:

o   contemporary technical theatre techniques and materials;

o   typical production schedules and timelines for mounting productions of all types;

o   Microsoft Office applications. Some CAD ability is an asset;

o   theatrical lighting, sound, & video, and production management.

o   A passion for performing arts.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills
  • Self-starter, detail oriented, adaptable to a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines
  • Valid Ontario driving license and clean 3 Years Driver Record Search required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Performs duties in a variety of environments, including construction shops, storage facilities, on stages, and regular office environments during flexible working hours.

COMPENSATION

$22.00/hour. This is a shift-based position, and the successful candidate can expect to work an average of 30-40 hours per week.

The desired length of contract is 8 months from the end of April to the end of December. Start and end dates are negotiable.
