STORY THEATRE COMPANY is a registered non-profit society and theatre for young audiences company based in Victoria, BC (Unceded Lkwn and WSANEC territories). For 45 years, Story Theatre has been inspiring imagination, fostering belonging, and enhancing education with a mandate to create and tour theatre productions for young people that enhance and complement their learning experiences. CRA Registered charity 898928296RR0001.

Currently, the company commissions new plays written by Canadian playwrights with vibrant and diverse perspectives, who through stories, want to encourage children to be leaders of change.

STORY THEATRE’S MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Producing theatre that tours to elementary schools and public spaces (for youth ages 5-12)

  • Producing theatre for the very young (for babies and children, ages 0-2 & 3-5)

  • Programming drama workshops and classroom residencies for educators and youth

  • Commissioning new plays for development and touring

  • Providing mentorship, residency, & training opportunities for QT2BIPOC and disabled artists through free arts program Creator Crew

  • Providing leadership opportunities for QT2BIPOC and disabled teens through Creator Crew Youth Jury

Job Description

OUTREACH ASSISTANT
Contract/ P/T at $27/hr for 10hrs/week

Working closely with the Associate and Artistic Producers, the Outreach Assistant will help
with admin tasks associated with promoting, accepting and managing tour bookings with
presenters (principally schools and community groups). Proficient use of phone, email, and
google workspace apps (docs, sheets, drive) is required of the candidate, as well as clear
and personable ways of communicating important information. Part-time schedule is
somewhat negotiable based on the candidates and Producers availability. Can start as early
as January 26, 2026.

In addition to qualifications, all successful applicants at Story Theatre will demonstrate:- Strong commitment and experience with anti-oppression, anti-discrimination, and decolonial practice- Professionalism and commitment to our Code of Conduct- Knowledge of professional theatre settings- Accountability to team members - Ability to work independently and in group settings- Ability to meet important deadlines - Interest in history, historical interpretation, Black History, and Mifflin Gibbs' life, is considered an asset
