Job Description

House Technician

Reporting to the Technical Director for all day-to-day technical matters, and to the Production Manager for administrative matters (e.g., hours and scheduling), the House Technician will primarily be responsible for the smooth operation of Lights and Sound for all rental events and summer productions mounted or presented at Lighthouse Theatre, Port Colborne. 

The House Technician must possess the required technical skills, be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, have demonstrated problem solving and time management skills, and be able to perform all the physical duties of the job with a strong commitment to Health and Safety. 

This is a Full Time Permanent position to start August 1, 2023.

Main Job Duties

Assist rental guest load in, set up and tear down for each show.

Execute all sound responsibilities for guest rentals or assist and/or guide guest sound personnel with set up and introduce them to our theatre equipment and capabilities. 

Prepare, hang, focus, and board programming for all rentals and summer shows in Port Colborne.

Handle the transfer of any light and sound needs for each summer production in a timely manner. Communicate needs with the Lighting Designer and Technical Director. 

Maintain all light and sound equipment as needed and inform the Technical Director of any equipment in need of repair or replacement.

Keep an up to date inventory of sound and lighting inventory.  

Assist the Head of Carpentry and the Lighthouse Theatre team with the transfer, set up, and tear down of sets on the Lighthouse stage.

Show operator for theatre productions.  

Responsible for preshow checks when required.  

Responsible for closing the theatre building when required.  

Attend all meetings, production and crew meetings, as scheduled by the Technical Director/Production Manager.   

Promote a health and safety conscious environment within the theatre.

Identify, communicate, maintain and mitigate safety concerns in the theatre space, backstage, booth or dressing rooms. 

Hours may be varied dependent on operational needs and include evening and weekend expectations.

Other duties as may be assigned by the Production Manager or Technical Director. 

Education, Skills and Abilities

 

·       Minimum One Year Postsecondary education in Technical Production 

·       Working knowledge on the ETC Ion and Element lighting boards

·       Experience with DMX technologies   

·       Working knowledgeable of the X32 sound board

·       Experience with Live Mix for live music performances

·       Strong communication skills 

·       Demonstrated time management skills  

·       Able to work safely from ladders and scaffolding   

·       Working at Heights & First Aid (training can be provided by the theatre)   

·       Valid Ontario Drivers License

·       Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations  

·       Work cooperatively with other members of your team and be able to work independently.
