Currently led by Cree artist Jimmy Blais, Artistic Director, we are one of the first non-culturally specific theatre companies in Canada with Indigenous leadership. 

Job Description

The Internship 

Geordie Theatre School (GTS)provides acting classes and workshops for childrenand teens.In this internship, we aim to offer interns a solid introduction to the theatre education we provide at Geordie Theatre School. We see this internship as a learning opportunity for interns, as well as a pathway into our teaching roster (if you find the experience positive and wish to continue). We offer a small honorarium along with the internship in recognition of the assistance you are providing the class. 

Main responsibilities: 

• Assistingwith creating a fun and safe environment for kids to explore their imagination 

• Helping to prepare classoutlines 

• Engaging in classroom activities 

• Supporting kids one on one as needed 

• Leading exercises (if the internfeelsready to do so!) 

• Occasionally substituting for the teacher(ifteacherand intern believe that the intern is ready,safe,and comfortable doing so). 

We arelookingfor: 

• Emerging theatre artist or person interested in the theatre arts 

• Interest in theatre arts with young people 

• Interest in learning how to create a piece of theatre with young people 

• Those looking to teach with GTS in the future
