Job Description

Talk Is Free Theatre is seeking a Director of Community Relations to play a key role in expanding the organization’s relationships, visibility and support throughout Barrie, the County of Simcoe and beyond.

The Director of Community Relations will build meaningful connections with community stakeholders, audiences, donors, businesses, and other partners, translating those relationships into increased engagement, attendance, earned revenue, and contributed support for the Theatre’s programs and operations.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, resourceful self-starter with strong leadership, networking and interpersonal abilities. They will be motivated to establish and deepen relationships throughout the community and to cultivate a diverse range of supporters and partners.

The position requires excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills; strong organizational and digital skills; and the ability to work collaboratively, inclusively, and independently in a small, entrepreneurial organization. A genuine interest in cutting-edge art, along with an entrepreneurial and hands-on approach, is essential.

The successful candidate must be based in the County of Simcoe.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in theatre, marketing, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and public relations skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with donors, volunteers, businesses, partners, and members of the community.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills across a variety of platforms and communication formats.
  • Strong financial acumen and an understanding of revenue development.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Other Requirements

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an existing open work permit.
  • Demonstrated experience working within principles of inclusion, equity, and anti-oppression.
  • Access to a personal vehicle.

Position and Compensation

This position is initially structured as a part-time contract with an annual fee of $30,000, beginning October 1. Talk Is Free Theatre is interested in building this as a long-term position and welcomes candidates who are excited by the opportunity to help shape and grow the scope over time.

We recognize that the scope of the role may attract candidates with different levels of experience and availability. The specific working arrangement will therefore be discussed with the successful candidate, with the goal of creating a structure that is realistic within the Theatre’s current resources and appropriate to the experience, contribution and availability of the individual relative to the organization’s broader objectives.
